Drug Abuse: In pursuit of happiness ?

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to Talk Back Thursday. Today we are going to talk about a very interesting topic i.e. drug abuse.

To understand what drug abuse is, we should first understand what are drugs? Drugs can be called as a chemical substance used to treat, cure, prevent or diagnose a disease or to promote  well being. So basically it is some substance that a doctor gives so that we feel good! It helps in healing faster. If a person is unwell & is undergoing great pain, he’ll look out for some help… something that will relieve his pain…

In today’s busy world where hardly people find time for themselves,  rarely we can find a person who sits & gives a patient ear to a friend in need.  It is at this time, when the depressed soul try to get pleasures from different things & substances that will give them happiness?? Can any substance  really give happiness? If yes, how? mefe

When in pain, we use certain pain relievers. But many of these pain relievers have a small window range, beyond which if used can lead to fatal  effects. People explore their lives to these drugs for ecstasy. Research suggests that when people using drugs were interviewed and asked whether they enjoy taking drugs; The response was positive! These people get happiness, & experiences ultimate bliss, from the ‘high’  these drugs give in a very short span of time. They say , “Koi tension nahi rehta.” That butt of cigar, or a puff of marijuana heals everything!

Psychologists say that drugs act as a ‘Reward System’. Most drugs affect the brain’s reward circuit by flooding it with the chemical messenger dopamine. This over-stimulation of the reward circuit causes the intense ‘high’ that leads people to take the drug again and again. Over time, the brain adjusts to the excess dopamine, and reduces the ‘high’ that the person feels compared to the high they felt when taking the drug for the first time—an effect known as tolerance. Hence, They might take more of the drug, trying to achieve the same dopamine ‘high’. This further leads to addiction.

Because drugs change the brain in ways that make quitting hard, even for those who want to.  For a person, it takes a really strong mind & will power to refrain from drugs. He & his loved ones both need to make a very strong effort so that the person is able to give up his addictions that gave him this “Kick”. He should be able to find happiness in better things, the way Salman Khan as Devi Lal Singh got an aim in life which gave him the required “Kick” to work for better, which contributed not only in his development but also of the needy.

David Lynch says “We all want expanded consciousness and bliss. It’s a natural, human desire. And a lot of people look for it in drugs. But the problem is that the body, the physiology, takes a hard hit on drugs. Drugs injure the nervous system, so they just make it harder to get those experiences on your own. Far more profound experiences are available naturally. When your consciousness starts expanding, those experiences are there”

When in depression, instead of committing suicide or opting for drugs, one should start finding peace in helping others, meditating, taking therapies, etc. When needed, ask for help, it can be friends, relatives, or even Psychologists if required! Don’t hesitate. Be happy & spread happiness, it will give you peace & self satisfaction!

You’ll find that being peaceful is blissful!

So what is your opinion about drugs? Do write to us, we are waiting for your response. Have a great day !
